....It's ME!! That's right, I was a woman on a mission in the Tri-Cities on Saturday, and with my trusty sidekick, Mike, I found the perfect boots on which to spend all of my Christmas money. I also bought these sweet purple tights to go with them, and was excited to debut the ensemble at church today. However, my plan backfired a little bit because the tights were so stunningly cool that nobody noticed my sweet boots! Don't worry, I pointed them out after thanking them for complimenting my tights, and then after they refocused their attention they were blown away by the rad-ness factor of my boots.
Well, I guess since it's my first post of 2010, I'll wish you all a glorious new year. Hopefully yours is off to a good start. Mike and I have already had a few crazy ups and downs, but we're looking forward to a good year. It is the first year in a long time that we aren't planning on moving somewhere new, so that should be pretty nice.
Our 2009 finished off in style. We spent Thanksgiving in B-Town with Mike's fam, and Christmas in C-Town with my parents and Ethan. Holidays are pretty sweet. Mike was off of work, I had a break from school, and we had a good time eating too much, sleeping too much, and hanging out with family. My mom was sick over Christmas, so we ended up going skiing at Bogus Basin with Ethan on Christmas Day. It was such a great day! Admittedly, it felt a little bit wrong to not be at home, but there was hardly anyone there and it was a gorgeous day with great snow. Hopefully we'll get a few more ski trips in this winter... We're hoping for Bachelor, Schweitzer, and Anthony Lakes at least.
So speaking of Bachelor... are you guys watching the new season? I think Jake is a huge dork, so I will be watching only in moderation. Mostly just to see him wash his abs a few more times... just kidding... but seriously, could you believe all of the shirtless footage??? That was ridiculous, and unfortunately I think it's just the beginning. Surprisingly this season looks to be filled with drama and unexpected twists and turns (she says sarcastically). But on a positive note, the song,
On the Wings of Love is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. Mike's actually jamming out to it right now. He can't stop, he loves it. To paraphrase Joel McHale, it makes me thankful for my ears all over again.
Seriously, though, we had a really great Christmas. Santa spoiled us both, but we were pretty good last year, so I guess it makes sense. He got us a new electric blanket and it is a welcome addition to our family. Our bedroom is one of the colder rooms in our house, so it's been really nice to be able to get the bed nice and toasty before we hop in at night. Another exciting gift that I haven't busted out yet is a new herb garden! I know, it's the culinary nerd in me, but I'm really excited to give this a shot. Additionally, I'm pretty stoked that the deer won't be able to eat this garden because it is staying inside the house.
Ha ha, speaking of our (non) green thumbs, we have this plant called a Christmas cactus that we inherited from the people who lived here before us, and it has been looking pretty sad and droopy for about five months (yes, we've only lived here for six months). Well Mike saw a really healthy looking one in his coworker's office and she made an offhand comment about how surprised she was at the amount of water it needed. So we tried watering ours, and would you believe it???--It is looking much better!! Shocking, I know. So a little tip from me to you: If your house plants are dying, try watering them. However, I have to say that if you're going to call something a cactus, it shouldn't require so much water. I'm just saying...
So back to Christmas, Santa brought Mike the first
"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" book and he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit (I know this because he was giggling the same way he does whenever he reads
Calvin and Hobbes). It's near the top of my
must read list after all of my boring textbooks,
Lolita, and
The Mapmaker's Wife. Additionally, Mike got three different pairs of gloves (a casual pair, a new pair for snowboarding (which, incidentally, tore the first time he took them out--he's that hard core, good thing Santa brought him a snowboarding helmet), and a new pair of leather work gloves. Two of his other top gifts came from each set of parents. His parents got us a DVD of the new Star Trek movie, and it was really good!! I know, it sounds like it has some nerd potential, but I've never seen an episode of Star Trek, and I usually am not really into science fictiony stuff, but it was pretty good. You should watch it. From my parents, he got a nice pair of Cabela's slippers. Since he's always cold, they've been a great addition to his lounge-wear. Sometimes he'll get this little sparkle in his eyes and jump off the couch to run put them on when he realizes he's not wearing them.
Well, I think this post has gone on long enough. I'll go ahead and sign off now.
Noddin' my head like yeah,
Amy
